Here is everything you need to know about the available grants in 2026.
The OZEV Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS)
The OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme provides grants towards the cost of installing EV chargepoints at domestic properties across the UK, including the West Midlands.
Up to £350 off installation costs
Homeowners with off-street parking who own or lease an eligible EV
Detached, semi-detached, terraced houses and flats with dedicated parking

Landlord EV Chargepoint Grants
Since 2022, landlords in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and across the West Midlands can apply for grants to install EV chargepoints at rental properties. This is a major selling point for tenants with electric vehicles.
For properties with dedicated off-street parking. Up to 200 grants per financial year.
For local authorities and housing associations with off-street parking facilities.

How to Claim an EV Charger Grant in the West Midlands
- 1Check your eligibility
Verify your vehicle, property and parking situation meets OZEV criteria. Most full EVs and many PHEVs qualify.
- 2Choose your charger
We recommend 7kW tethered or untethered chargers for most West Midlands homes. 22kW is available for 3-phase supplies.
- 3Get a site survey
Our OZEV-authorised electrician visits your property to assess your consumer unit, earthing and cable route.
- 4We apply for the grant

Yes — if you are a tenant with off-street parking and an eligible vehicle, you can apply for the EVHS grant. Your landlord's permission is required. Landlords can also apply for separate landlord grants.
Most full battery electric vehicles (BEVs) qualify. Some plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) also qualify if they meet CO2 emission criteria. Check the full OZEV eligibility list or ask us to confirm.
A standard 7kW home installation takes 3–6 hours. If your consumer unit needs upgrading or the cable run is complex, it may take a full day.
Not always, but many older fuse boards cannot handle the additional load safely. We assess this during your free site survey and will advise if an upgrade is needed.
The EVHS grant is limited to one chargepoint per vehicle, per property. The Workplace Charging Scheme allows up to 40 sockets per business.
